Traditional anniversary gift ideas for couples who love to travel https://postcardjar.com/traditional-anniversary-gift-ideas-couples-travel-wedding/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=traditional-anniversary-gift-ideas-couples-travel-wedding https://postcardjar.com/traditional-anniversary-gift-ideas-couples-travel-wedding/#comments Sun, 27 Aug 2023 13:50:12 +0000 https://postcardjar.com/?p=11351 Looking for traditional anniversary gift ideas for a couple who likes to travel? We’ve got you covered. For the first 12 years of marital bliss, anyway. Steve and I were married Aug. 27, 2011, after one year of dating and a two-month engagement.  Celebrating our wedding anniversaries As our first anniversary approached, we had no idea what to get each other. Having gotten married when we were 38 and 42, we had accumulated almost everything we really needed before we said, “I do.” Therefore, we decided to commemorate the occasion with a photo (in a photo) each year and purchase something together for our home. Then, in another nod to traditionalism, we decided to follow traditional anniversary gift suggestions. You know the ones: paper, tin, china, silver, gold, pearls. Our rule was to keep the cost under $100 and look for something related to our love for travel. So far, we’ve been able to stay within our budget (mostly), the traditions, and the travel theme. Who knows how long we’ll be able to keep it up, but at least for now, we’ve added some unique pieces to our home. We’ve also created lasting memories of our travels. Here’s a look at the traditional […]

Refinishing a wood deck with Rustoleum RockSolid Deck Resurfacer https://postcardjar.com/refinishing-a-wood-deck-with-rustoleum-rocksolid-deck-resurfacer/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=refinishing-a-wood-deck-with-rustoleum-rocksolid-deck-resurfacer https://postcardjar.com/refinishing-a-wood-deck-with-rustoleum-rocksolid-deck-resurfacer/#comments Thu, 25 Jun 2020 12:40:20 +0000 https://postcardjar.com/?p=12516 It took some time and a lot of hard work, but with the help of our friend, Gio, we finally finished our 70-foot deck renovation with Rustoleum RockSolid Deck Resurfacer!  If you’re a regular follower of our Instagram and Facebook stories (thank you), you know that we recently renovated our huge wooden deck.  When we bought our home in Crete, Nebr., one of the features that convinced us to buy it was the 70-foot deck that runs the length of the back of the home. Three seasons out of the year, we’re able to enjoy this beautiful 1,000 sq. foot space that overlooks a small reservoir. Our deck is ideal for large gatherings and we’ve used it time and time again to host dinner parties. We also have hosted family celebrations, graduations, and bridal showers.  Decks, though, require maintenance. Ours is made from wood, so it’s important to keep it waterproofed so it doesn’t rot. Over the years we’ve re-stained it a number of times, but each time the waterproofing has worn off after just a season or two. So this year, we thought we’d try something different. We contacted the friendly folks at Crete Ace Hardware store, and they […]

Easy 4-ingredient artisan bread that will impress https://postcardjar.com/easy-4-ingredient-artisan-bread-that-will-impress/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=easy-4-ingredient-artisan-bread-that-will-impress https://postcardjar.com/easy-4-ingredient-artisan-bread-that-will-impress/#comments Sun, 24 May 2020 15:51:19 +0000 https://postcardjar.com/?p=12410 Y’all, fancy artisan bread that will impress guests is easy to make. I’d never dreamed of baking a loaf of bread like this until I saw a beautiful loaf baked by our friend Bill Clevlen of Bill on the Road. I immediately messaged him and asked for the recipe. He pointed me to a recipe on the website It’s Always Autumn, which is full of great DIY/craft/cooking ideas. I tried the recipe, and it was FANTASTIC! Artisan bread is easy to make The recipe calls for only four ingredients: flour, salt, water, and yeast. You just mix them up, then let the dough sit for the better part of a day. Near the end of the process you shape it, score it (which is just a fancy way of saying you make a little cut in the top), and bake it. No kneading, no folding, no stretching, and best of all, no worries. But in the end, you’ll have delicious, crusty artisan bread that will impress. (Note: this post contains affiliate links. A word about “those people” https://postcardjar.com/12104-2/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=12104-2 https://postcardjar.com/12104-2/#respond Wed, 18 Mar 2020 22:39:35 +0000 https://postcardjar.com/?p=12104 We are staying home. We’ve been here for almost a week now because Ann is one of “those people.” You know the ones. Those people with an underlying health issue. Those people with a suppressed immune system. One of those people who could become seriously ill, need hospitalization, and even die if exposed to the coronavirus. Those people need your help to stay safe and live. And all you have to do is stay home when you don’t NEED to be out. Over the past few days, we’ve seen photos, videos, and witnessed first hand people of all ages (but mostly young people) gathering in groups for what us old people would consider “non essential” reasons: birthday parties, movies, youth sports practices, St. Patty’s Day celebrations at the bar, spring break at the beach, and the like. We don’t understand it. We try not to judge. But just for a time during this worldwide pandemic, could we ask people who are participating in non-essential activities to consider who “those people” most at risk really are? Those people are already battling serious illnesses. Those people want to see their grandchildren grow up. Those people need to do their jobs as nurses […]
