We’ve been working hard at losing weight, but we’ll be slowing down a bit this week. At least for 43 hours.
We’re headed out for a Foodie FAM called “A Taste of Kansas City, Kansas.” Over the next couple of days, we’ll be hosted by Visit Kansas City, Kansas, on a FAM trip (that’s a fancy abbreviation that means familiarization). They’re sponsoring our trip to try foods and drinks from about 20 different places in KCK. This is EXACTLY why we’re super diligent with our eating at home…so we can have a little more freedom when we’re on the road.
We’ll be joined on the trip by several other bloggers and influencers, including the folks behind Adventures of Empty Nesters, Tangled Up in Food, Adventure Mom Blog, and Tim Wassberg of Sirk TV. You can follow along on our Instagram and Facebook stories @postcardjar. And please feel free to share our posts with your foodie friends.
We’ll start our food-lovers tour with a sampling of some of the delicious BBQ for which Kansas City, Kansas, is known. Our welcome reception will be at a place called d’Nile Wine Bar & Patio, which is located in the Chateau Avalon Hotel & Spa where we’ll be staying. After that, we’ll head to 403 Club for pinball and craft beer (yes, Steve is thinking this is way better than being a middle school principal). We’ll end the evening with a little karaoke and cocktails at The Mockingbird Lounge. Still trying to figure out a song or two.
Wednesday is a full day of food! We start our morning at Fritz’s Railroad Restaurant where food is delivered to your table by an electric train. Then, we hit several places for tastings, including Bonito Michocan Bakery, Krizman’s House of Sausage, and El Pollo Rey, which we hear has the best grilled chicken around. We’ll also have tastings at Rosedale BBQ and Velvet Creme Popcorn.
Then, we’re doing a tour and tasting at Spicin Foods, which makes specialty sauces, salsas and snacks and dips. They bottle more than 1,300 sauces and are the largest bottling company in the Midwest.
We get to also have a “make your own pizza” experience at 1889 Pizza in Kansas City, Kansas, where we’ll turn a dough ball into a delicious pizza. If we don’t drop it.
A stop at Rowe Ridge Winery in the late afternoon will provide a tour of a winery and a tasting. Then we’ll go back to the hotel to relax and refresh, not to mention digest before we end our day with dinner at Final Cut at Hollywood Casino at the Kansas Speedway. Final Cut is a contemporary American steakhouse.
Thursday morning we’ll do a few final tastings at Spitlog Coffee and Paleterias Tropicana. And to top off our 43-hour binge, we’ll make one final stop at Boba Blend for cool beverage for the road.
We hope you’ll follow along on Instagram and Facebook and let us know if you have any questions or want us to try anything in particular as we do our “research.” Remember, we do this for you. 🙂
Can’t wait for the next article!
Great recap! It was a lot of fun and so much more fun with you and Steve!
We loved spending time with you in KCK!
You know about Jones BBQ from Queer Eye?
We did not see that show.
