Do you love April Fool’s Day as much as we do? Each year, we look forward to playing harmless pranks on each other and we’ve even written a few April Fool’s Day blog posts like the one about Ann’s first visit to a nude beach. This year, we noticed more and more businesses in the travel industry taking part in the fun. Here are nine of our picks for best April Fool’s Day posts of 2019.
Frankfurt Airport
The Frankfurt Airport had a fantastic idea to help nervous travelers relax – an alpaca lounge! Our daughter, Meghan, would absolutely love this!! Can you even imagine being stressed out about your flight and being offered a short stay in the alpaca lounge? Actually, it sounds wonderful. Alpaca my bag and head over there right now.

Cruiseline.com
In celebration of April Fool’s Day, Cruisline.com made up a story about one cruise line charging passengers who gained weight during their cruise. The article said passengers would be asked to step on the scale on both embarkation and disebarkation days and would be asked to pay extra for every pound they gained. The good news is that in reality, weight gain on board is still provided at no additional charge. Let’s hit the buffet (again)!

Westjet.com
Westjet.com has been doing April Fool’s pranks since 2006. The Canadian airline went all out with its charade in 2019. They created a professional video advertisement for their #FlyreFestival — an immersive music festival at 35,000 feet on a 787 Dreamliner. Complete with singers and dancers, lots of food and drink, models, and even social media influencers influencing, this one was just fantastic! Take two minutes out of your work day (your boss won’t mind) and watch this hilarious video.
Like all great stories, this one begins with a flight. Welcome to #FlyreFestival – an immersive music festival at 35,000 feet on our 787 Dreamliner. Will you join us? https://t.co/xcKGfEgjCL pic.twitter.com/Zv4oapXRij

McDonald’s
Fast food giant McDonalds got a head start March 31 by promoting new dipping sauce flavors which, revealed the next day, were Shake Sauces. They announced that you could now dip your Chicken McNuggests in strawberry, vanilla, chocolate, or shamrock shake sauce. Some fans were actually disappointed it was only a joke. McDonald’s Australia announced they’d be offering a McPickle burger, made of pickles layered between melted cheese, ketchup, and toasted sesame seed buns.

The Kitchn
This one cracked us up!! We love thekitchn.com and couldn’t stop laughing at their social media post about a new Mega Instant Pot. They said it would have six new features such as a self-cleaning mode and scented silicone rings. The Mega Instant Pot would also vacuum your countertops and babysit your kids. WOW! If only true.

Ever wonder how you could travel to 20 beaches in one day? Carnival Cruiseline had you covered on April Fool’s Day. They introduced their newest vessel, the Carnival Velocity, which they said would let you soak in the sun in record speed at 355 mph. Talk about fun!

Postcard Jar | Travel blog
Of course we had to put in our story about our visit to Flabbergasted in Truco, Mississippi. We concocted five grotesque dishes and a sweet and savory cocktail for our readers. The truth is, we made all of these dishes in our own kitchen and didn’t taste one thing (only photographed them). And Truco, Mississippi? It’s also a made-up place, but we gave you a hint. Truco means “trick” in Spanish.

Visit Florida
Nice idea but not as funny when you’re in Nebraska where it snowed last week. But seriously, we love that Visit Florida played the April Fool’s Day game. It’s a fun state to visit, so we’re not really surprised.
